I wanted to support a local business by buying my camera at Powell Camera Shop. Since it was not in stock, it had to be ordered and I was told it would take about 1 week. One week later I called to check on the status and was told that it had shipped. However after 2 more weeks went by and I called again, I was told that it had not shipped and was only "allocated". The worker at the camera shop told me he would call Canon and find out what is going on, and that he would call me back later in the day. He never called back. So I went into the store the next day to ask what is going on. I was told the same thing; that they would call Canon and get back to me. Once again they did not get back to me. This is poor customer service. I decided to get the camera somewhere else and I cancelled my order. I realize that the switch from shipped status to "allocated" status is an issue with Canon, but it was not good customer service for Powell to not get back to me on two occasions to provide an update as they had promised.

I was recommended to go here by my photography teacher for my negative prints.

I found an image too dark, and the older gentleman was willing to make a corrected print, free of charge as a courtesy!

The younger gentleman was also kind and willing to edit my print from digital!

They have my future business, and they charge fair prices.

I am currently on vacation in California specifically the city of Covina. My one camera I brought with me was damaged in the luggage or at home before I packed it. Nevertheless I brought it today to Powell Camera to see if anything could be done to fix it or the whole trip would have to be photographed with my cell phone. Mark Thiel was very Helpful and very Courteous. He took the time to check the chage of each battery to rule them out as the cause. Once he determined a possible broken spring in the camera it would seen time to retire it! The place has everything and anything your photographic needs. Plus they also can print pictures write there in then.?

I went there to cash out or trade an old camera. They didn't have any lenses I wanted for my newer Canon camera, so I just took the cash for my used, older Canon camera, equipment & lenses. Nice store, limited equipment during my visit, & a long drive from Highland. However, staff were very cordial & helpful.

Great ‘old school’ camera store that get harder and harder to find. Good selection of film. Great selection of used film gear. Also decent amount of home processing gear. Lots of lighting equipment. They seem to buyout photographers or maybe shops that are going out of biz so they have a real eclectic variety of stuff. Especially oddball do-hickeys and ‘thing-a-magigs’
You know when you’re putting together a tabletop still life and you need to position a flag just so but you don’t have a thingy that hold the flag and attached to the boom? They got those! Great price on used processing equipment. They also offer lab services for film, process and scan, print, whatever you’d like. A little low on chemicals but so are all stores. Can’t just ship a gallon of d-76 around anymore.
The guys that run the place are very nice and extremely knowledgeable. I witnessed one teaching a father and son the basics of metering with a handheld meter in about 15 min. Try getting that from Amazon! Probably one of the best collection of used film equipment I’ve seen out here on the eastern edge of LA County. Def check them out, they can use the biz and I’d hate to see another one close their doors! Been there for over 20 yrs.

I love this camera shop. The owner, Mark, I believe, is very very involved and very helpful. Most of the time when I go he is there. He answers all questions I have asked even when they seem a little silly. He offers private lessons after hours and has explained how to use my camera the best way to get the desired results. They also have used cameras and lenses which they test before selling. I’ve purchased my a7iii and multiple lenses from here and I’ve never had any issues or been disappointed. They sell some really cool film cameras as well as other accessories to help take quality pictures. I’ve had them print a lot of photos over the years and they’re always quality prints and come back in a timely fashion. They also have an adorable dog that roams freely in the store. He’s extremely friendly and I love giving him pets when I visit

Their photo lab services are superb and they process slide and print film as well as scanning and enlargements from analog or digital files.
