While I appreciate the local business aesthetic of this place, dear lord prepare yourself for the smell. I never thought I would welcome the smell of NYC streets (piss and garbage), but after spending 10 mins browsing in here it was a delight.
Besides that I feel like my experience here was pretty mixed. While whoever was in charge or the owner was very kind and personable, the lens salesman in the back of the store was incredibly rude and treated me like I didn’t know anything. My whole reason for coming was the $30 bins of old lenses, and the first thing he said to me was “don’t waste your time looking in there, just tell me what you want and I’ll see if we have it…” which was a clear upsell. Then when I gave up on the bins (the smell was getting to me), the salesman proceeded to insult my lens knowledge while not knowing which lenses they had in stock. I don’t claim to know everything about lenses, but at no one has ever questioned if I was asking about the right lens mount multiple times before.
The girl selling film in the front was nice, but I won’t be returning here any time soon.

MULTIPLE EXAMPLES, read through.

I never write reviews, but after a number of bad experiences here with different employees, I find it a necessary undertaking. I'll keep the examples brief. This week for a job I was asked to purchase 8 Rolls of Super8 film. After the shoot was over, we had most of it left over so I went to the store to return the film. The policy clearly states that returns within 30 days are accepted and only opened film is excluded. Thus my rolls of unopened film should be allowed a return. I came in with my receipt, the return policy pulled up, and the unopened film and I was promptly denied. They said that it was against their policy and that I couldn't prove that I hadn't put the film through an X-Ray machine which is a ridiculous thing to have to prove (and give that only high ASA films are particularly sensitive to X-Rays and would need to be passed through multiple times.) I stood my ground and was still refused even when I told the manager that it was unfair since the policy on the website clearly said I should be allowed the return and that he should note this on their website, to which he replied "I'm the manager, I don't control the website."

Their film processing is another deal all together. They have sent my film to the wrong people before which is a violation of privacy. I've waited weeks on end for film scans that I needed for a job. I've also received damaged low res scans back when I paid for high res.

The staff is also very slow, condescending, and most aren't able to answer basic questions about the cameras / film / lenses I'm asking about. Products are marked up way too much and though ease of their store being so close was nice, I'd much rather spend my money next door at the color house where the staff is kind.

Hardly a day goes by without me happening to stumble in K&M! Fun little camera store! Highly recommend their film development program. Cheaper on wednesdays I’ve heard from staff members ✌️

Items are a little on the proverbial pricier side but hey, it’s a camera store on the lower east side of MANHATTAN, USA, things aren’t gonna be for a dollar ?

There was also a disagreement on the street in front of the shop but that’s not their fault.

But get up and get in there. Maybe i’ll see you there ? Bye honeys!!

Where do I begin? For one, these guys are super grouchy and kinda rude. First time I went in they were kinda friendly but barely, I went bought my camera and left. Second time around I thought “let me give them another shot” they were so rude they did not feel welcoming at all especially to my friend who was with me and when my friend asked the guy a question about a camera he didn’t even look and just gave a price which was $200 (definitely overpriced for a digicam)…I guess he’s psychic? I reached in for a camera which I had done the first time around but this time around he was upset I did that Your glass cases are open for viewing and examining are they not? They also made me feel like I had no idea how to work a camera. The camera was super overpriced ESPECIALLY the lens, I just wanted to support a small business but I guess never again. Color lab next door was much much friendlier. 1 STAR. Don’t waste your time in here guys.

Really amazing spot to find a different kinds of cameras! Lots of choices! I got myself a Panasonic digital camera, works wonderful! Staff were genuinely nice and helpful which made the process of finding my favorite camera smoothly and swiftly! Big shoutout to Fernando for assisting me! Highly recommended!
